Scam alert: ACMA warns of eBay scam phone calls

The ACMA is seeing a sharp increase in complaints about scammers impersonating staff from eBay. Be wary of callers claiming that money will be deducted from your account – this is a scam!

The scammers generally use a recorded message to claim you have made a purchase and they need to charge your account. They are trying to gain access to your personal information.

eBay does not ask its customers to disclose or verify sensitive or personal information over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately. If in doubt, hang up and contact eBay through its website.
